EDIE: EMBEDDING DESIGN IN EDUCATION
DESIGN STATEMENT: Work to develop a solution that educates both teachers and their students on the design process and how the exercise of design can be utilized in their education as a whole. Focus on empowering both the students and educators.
SUMMARY OF SOLUTION: Over the course of nine months, I developed a series of six lesson plans and the supplementary material required to introduce design thinking to fourth graders in a Washington state public school setting. This project was inspired by the desire to give back to all the teachers who shaped me into the designer I am today. Design thinking is a multidisciplinary process that benefits students of all ages. Below are links to the final capstone book, lesson plans, student workbooks, persona cards, and classroom posters. After that are the slides from the final presentation of EDIE given in April 2022 at Rochester Institute of Technology.

This solution was determined to be the most accessible and applicable way to introduce design concepts after extensive research and feedback from educators across a wide array of situations. This project was influenced by the desire to give back to all the educators and students who have shaped me into the designer that I am today.
